Q:Does my travel insurance cover me for delays caused by bad weather?
Yes. As long as you can show that the bad weather was the reason you were late getting to the airport, ferry or Eurostar, you can.
If you take public transport that runs to a timetable - like a train, tram, bus or tube – you’ll be able to show it was disrupted by the weather, and claim for the delay. That includes if you miss your flight, boat or train completely.
If you’ve used ‘unscheduled’ transport – like a taxi, your own car, or a lift from someone – you can still make a claim. But you’ll have to show that you were delayed because of the weather, and not just because you didn’t leave enough time.
To do that, you’ll need something like a letter from the Highways Agency confirming that any congestion or road closures were caused by severe weather or a report from your local paper about the disruption.
